Christian Bale by Joruji Christian Bale by Joruji
Well, this has been probably harder than my last painting ([link]) :phew:. If you look at it very close, you'll notice that I've been practising a different style for the skin texture. It's everything done with only one kind of brush (I usually use 2 or 3 brushes in my paintings) and unlike other times, all the skin texture is in only one layer, everything painted as in a traditional way except hair and background that are in different layers.

Hope you like it!! :)

ops!!, I almost forget it... :P, I want to dedicate this to my sister :iconchocokristi: (she would have killed me if I hadn't dedicate it to her :XD:)

Here you have the "Animated Steps" if you want to see how the painting changes step by step: [link]
And here some detail to see the texture closer: [link]
UPDATE:
I wasn't satisfied with the neck, so I've improved it a little.
By the way, as he is an actor, I've decided to participate with it in the :iconameryn: Actors Contest

I found this image on google images and instantly thought "oh that's a nice photo of him", only to click on it and find out that it's a painting.

I think you have been so successful in creating photorealism not only because of the great excruciating detail, but because you've captured the lighting and colour tones absolutely perfectly. In thumbnail size, the entire portrait registers as a unified, harmonious piece that's very easy on the eye.

The textures of the skin are great (I especially like how you've added bits of the blue from the light on the underside of his eyes and on his collarbone. The way the light catches on his jawline and facial hair adds delightful clarity to the portrait.

If I had to critique, I would say that the white light beams from the light source in the corner could have been smoothened out even more. But it's a tiny thing which I wouldn't even had noticed if I hadn't spent the past ten minutes stating at this piece in awe :)

Overall, this is a breathtaking portrait!

I used the same brush for everything. I simple changed the brush opacity and flow in order to get a soft or a hard stroke :)

in this painting I zoomed the picture as much as I could, and started painting this abstract texture inch by inch, with a soft brush, as I said before. Patience is probably the best ally in this part of the painting ;)
