Christian Bale by Joruji Christian Bale by Joruji
Well, this has been probably harder than my last painting ([link]) :phew:. If you look at it very close, you'll notice that I've been practising a different style for the skin texture. It's everything done with only one kind of brush (I usually use 2 or 3 brushes in my paintings) and unlike other times, all the skin texture is in only one layer, everything painted as in a traditional way except hair and background that are in different layers.

Hope you like it!! :)

ops!!, I almost forget it... :P, I want to dedicate this to my sister :iconchocokristi: (she would have killed me if I hadn't dedicate it to her :XD:)

Here you have the "Animated Steps" if you want to see how the painting changes step by step: [link]
And here some detail to see the texture closer: [link]
UPDATE:
I wasn't satisfied with the neck, so I've improved it a little.
By the way, as he is an actor, I've decided to participate with it in the :iconameryn: Actors Contest

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I found this image on google images and instantly thought "oh that's a nice photo of him", only to click on it and find out that it's a painting.

I think you have been so successful in creating photorealism not only because of the great excruciating detail, but because you've captured the lighting and colour tones absolutely perfectly. In thumbnail size, the entire portrait registers as a unified, harmonious piece that's very easy on the eye.

The textures of the skin are great (I especially like how you've added bits of the blue from the light on the underside of his eyes and on his collarbone. The way the light catches on his jawline and facial hair adds delightful clarity to the portrait.

If I had to critique, I would say that the white light beams from the light source in the corner could have been smoothened out even more. But it's a tiny thing which I wouldn't even had noticed if I hadn't spent the past ten minutes stating at this piece in awe :)

Overall, this is a breathtaking portrait!

have you used a filter for it or simple brushes for blending

I used the same brush for everything. I simple changed the brush opacity and flow in order to get a soft or a hard stroke :)

in this painting I zoomed the picture as much as I could, and started painting this abstract texture inch by inch, with a soft brush, as I said before. Patience is probably the best ally in this part of the painting ;)

Absolutely AMAZING! I really thought it was a photo - I'm so glad I enlarged!

I really like the skin texture, actually - it looks quite gritty and textured (like real face :P) and sort of adds to the mood of the pic, which in my mind screams subterranean vault or interrogation room, but that's just personal opinion :D

Only have 1 critique and I have no right to give it, because this level of perfection is simply astounding and way beyond my reach in visual art ;) but I would've liked the (t-shirt?) black shirt's collar to be as rich in defined texture as the jacket. I know creating that much texture on a piece of black cloth in shadow could be mighty hard...

But as I said this detracts absolutely nothing from the painting as it truly is remarkable in its perfection!

So skin-texture + old (and probably a little frayed off-screen) military style jacket + big spotlight really makes me wonder what the story behind the story of this shot would be.

Anyway, it's fantastic! Sorry if this portrait is a much older post than warrants comment - but in my opinion if I Fav something I have to comment - it's only polite :D (and it's a pet peeve when others fail to do so...)

Thank you so much for your comment, it's really very much appreciated :)
This painting is the one I like the most from my gallery, and it's because it has been the hardest and maybe the longest to get finished. I'm really proud of the result but,I spent so much time painting these damned textures :XD:

It's absolutely my pleasure! I can only imagine the amount of passion, energy and time that you poured into this piece and I can truly say it paid off! And, yes, the textures definitely too! :D

At first i thought, hey, it's a photograph of christian bale, and then I noticed a slight difference when I zoomed in and I thought, there is absolutely no way someone painted this. There is just no way. BUT, I guess you made a way, because it is indeed a painting, and one of the best I have ever seen, not just on dA, but ever. Truly amazing what a person with a creative mind can do. This is VERY nice. Instant favorite right there. Keep up the AWESOME work!

Oh, my..this is absolutely INCREDIBLE, hon'! OMG!!! :wow: That's Christian Bale (I think), right? May I ask how you made him look so...REAL???? Is it with oils??..and is there a name for your particular technique?..like airbrushing? I've always wanted to do airbrush illustration..but I know there is another type of illustration that looks very realistic, too..but I don't remember what it's called. Anyway..wonderful work, hon'! Thank you for sharing it with us! :)
